THE DOG & CAT MEAT TRADE IN
CAMBODIA
Every year, millions of innocent dogs and cats are slaughtered throughout Cambodia for the country’s horrific dog and cat meat trade. Beloved pets are stolen from the streets, crammed into filthy cages, transported to disease-ridden slaughterhouses, and brutally beaten to death, drowned, hanged, or burned alive.
Some dogs are trapped in their tiny, feces-filled enclosures for so long that their muscles waste away and they’re barely able to stand up. Others suffer from infected wounds, rabies and other diseases.
At least 110 establishments serve dog meat just in Cambodia’s capital, Phnom Penh. It’s common to see “Delicious Dog Meat” signs and roasted dog heads displayed in restaurant windows throughout the country.
Cambodia’s dog and cat meat trade has grown steadily in recent years, and sales are now spiking amid the coronavirus pandemic due to the false belief that dog meat has virus-fighting properties.
Two huge steps have been taken to end the dog and cat meat trade in different parts of Cambodia. Siem Reap became the first province in Cambodia to ban the sale and consumption of dog meat, according to "The BBC News". Nonprofit FOUR PAWS aided in shutting down a dog slaughterhouse while saving 16 dogs from their wired cages and dismantling the drowning tanks, according to "The People".

🐕 Dog slaughterhouse horror in Cambodia
FROM FOUR PAWS UK
"Today we want to show you what a dog slaughterhouse looks like on the inside. While this might look terrifying enough, this is only the more "harmless" footage. The reality brings our team members to 💧 tears. Even if we don't want to, we have to speak about the unspeakable. Of what is happening inside this facility. Once it is their turn, the dogs are transferred from larger holding cages into smaller crates by stabbing and prodding with bamboo sticks. Terrified, they have no choice but to follow orders. Once filled with dogs, the cages are plunged into the fetid water of one of two drowning pits. The cages are left to sit in the water for up to five minutes, while the submerged dogs struggle for air. After there are no more air bubbles coming to the water’s surface, the cages are removed.. We are doing everything in our power to end this horror. We cannot do it without you and need your help to #ProtectMillions"
